MIAMI, Fla. — Jeff Bezos has agreed in principle to purchase the Miami Dolphins for $8.1 billion, a deal sources describe as "essentially done," pending NFL owner approval and Bezos locating Miami on a map.
To qualify for Florida's homestead exemption, Bezos will establish Hard Rock Stadium as his primary residence for a minimum of six months and one day per year. Plans for the owner's suite have been expanded to include a sleeping area, a full kitchen, and what an architectural rendering described as "a tasteful breakfast nook overlooking the fifty-yard line."
The team carries an NFL-record $180 million in dead cap money. Bezos, when informed of this figure, asked what dead cap was, was told, and then asked again.
Bezos has proposed renaming the stadium "The Domicile." The league has not acknowledged receiving the proposal.
